Cancelled my tour into Ephesus today because of the bronchitis and instead opted for a drive-by/photo tour instead as well as 2 other locations which were great--the mountain village of Sirince and the House of the Virgin Mary high in the mountains out of Kudaski.
Ephesus, once the third largest city of the ancient world next to Rome and Constantinople (Istanbul). Once home to half a million people, it now sits far inland from the sea between two hillocks covered in scrub. Many old buildings, amphitheatre, library, gymnasium...now sitting in ruin...amazing. Also one pillar from the Temple of Artemis, once an ancient wonder of the world, and now sitting solo on an arid field.
The House of the Virgin Mary, apparently the home of Mary after Christ's death and lived there with the Apostle John until her death. A lovely spot up in the mountains surrounded by trees and winds. Also a spring from which you have 3 drinks...health, fertility and love.
Sirince...after a very, very switchback road into the mountains...this village with its narrow cobblestoned paths and traditional markets with people selling spices, teas, liquors, wines, weaving, foods. Lovely people in traditional dress. I could very easily return for a longer stay.

Visited a carpet factory. Amazing watching these young women weave and also to see how they get the silk from the silkworm cocoon for silk carpets...$1500 for the smallest.
I enjoyed looking at the pictures of the women weaving. Those women are my age. I can not imagine doing that all my life! What skill! You must have thoroughly enjoyed this as finally some craft work that is straight from the artisan's hands.
