SEPT/09 OLMPIA, Greece; NAFLION, Greece

Bee-hive shaped burial chamber about 30 ft. high inside. Close to Mycenae ancient site

Ancient Mycenae site. Gold masks were found here but now in Athens Museum. 1600-1000 BC Mycenae era. Hills in the background were of the Argalon area....famous hilltop fortress overlooking the ocean for defense, long abandoned. Area now famous for oranges and wine.

Deep crevices for defence made this Mycenae site what it was.

The Lion's Gate...

I felt like I was finally seeing something quite different here. Was supposed to go on a tour into Olympic site but was not up to it. Strolled around here instead and bought a lovely set of salad spoon/fork made of olive wood.

  1. Where is this place? You must have had a great time wandering through this sea-side village! What are these ruins?

  2. This is Mycenae, Greece...a very ancient and powerful fortress city of the 6th Cent. BC...and all things pass...

The scene of the port is the first good sense of Greek villages at Naflion, Greece. Only walked the few streets and window shopped. Lovely cafes close to the water and boats.
